| Hi Ladies and Happy New Year,
I have been attempting to stiffen the bows that I make, but have had no success. I have tried baking them (like Korkers) and spray starch (canned type) to no avail! I would love to know how you stiffen your ribbons and if it's successful. Thanks! Gena | |

| Hi Gena,
I havent really tried the stiffener, but if it is bows for my daughter I will spray them with a good hairspray, but this can be flameable so be careful and dont burn the ends after spraying LOL as i did

| You are too funny, Trace! I will try the hairspray. I have been in all of the sites in the US and they use something called 'Stay flo' (sp?) which is a starch that you can mix yourself. Not sure if there is anything like that here, but like I said previously, the spray starch in a can does not work! | |

| I use fabric stiffener (from Spotlight) watered down. It is with all the glues. I like it.
I did come across Pearsons concentrated laundy starch - "Iron Easy" a little while ago and bought some. Have not used it yet but is is made in Australia.

| Thanks Janine, I will head to Spotlight and pick some up. I will attempt to keep to that one item, but hey, it's Spotlight and I can't seem to walk out of there spending any less than $50! | |

| We've all been there! LOL. It is worse when you take little kids and they see stuff they want to make. | |

| I have always used the spray starch and haven't had any problems. You can get a 'make your own' starch at the supermarket also, off the top of my head it's called Silver Star and I used that alot when I was in the Army just haven't gotten around to trying it out on the bows. Cheers Rubes | |

| I've been using the Spotlight fabric stiffener watered down with great success, although I am not making as many OTT bows now and haven't had to use it in a while. I don't use it on my little bows as I find it makes them a little more durable if they are soft with little people. Hope this helps http://www.craftbits.com/project/home-made-fabric-stiffenerRegards Leigh | |
