Start with mainly basic colours. Plenty of pinks, purples, blues and greens. School colours are always good.

There are a few ribbon sellers in Australia. Both Trace and I sell ribbon and hardware.

Mine is Pretty Beaded Things

Tracey's is Ribbon and Bow Studio

You can pick up some good bargins on E-bay but have a good look at their feedback. I bought some ribbon off E-bay a very long time ago and I ended up donating it to the school. It was really flimsy. Great for teaching yourself with.

If you need free instructions there are plenty on the web or feel free to ask here.

Have fun!

Hello. I am also new to bow making. I now have a girl (previously 2 boys) so now I can have fun doing girlie stuff. Very Happy I have been watching a lot of you tube videos and am ready to get started. I am starting to collect ribbon and am about ready to start practicing. I know I need to go get a new hot glue gun first though. I am so excited to get started. bounce I know I will really appreciate all the help & advise I receive here. Razz

I live in New Mexico.

I have been thinking about what was posted earlier about where to buy ribbon. It was said to look on ebay. I have been getting my ribbon from Michael's. I have found what looks to be nice ribbon for pretty cheap and there are always coupons in the Sunday paper for 40% or 50% off. I just picked up some really cute clearance ribbon for 99 cents. I haven't tried using it yet. In your opinion does Michael's have good quality ribbon for making bows and at a good price?

Hi Darlingfletcher,

This forum mainly consists of Australian bow makers. Some great places to buy ribbon in the US is Ribbons and Bows Oh My (called RABOM), Tabby Wabby, Hip Girls, Posh & Pretty, The Ribbon Retreat, Ribbon Carnival.

Just google the names to get to their websites. Most of these sites run discounts during the year so sign up for newsletters or join their Facebook Pages.

I have never heard of problems with ribbon from Michael's. I have heard they can sometimes have great discounts on their products.

Hi Susanne,

I use a wood burning tool (also called a soldering iron) to heat seal the ends of the ribbon. If you are burning the ends you are likely keeping the flame too long next to the ribbon. Try keeping the flame at a greater distance from the ribbon. You don't need to really melt the ribbon to seal it. It should only need a little heat.
